J D Jiles Retired US Army Senior Enlisted personnel (20 years)
J D Jiles worked as a medical specialist and Army Recruiter. Retired from the State of California as a Workforce Service Manager (23)years. Responsible for connecting employers and jobseekers. He graduated from the University of Phoenix with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Business Management. Completed the Masters academic requirements in psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy. Partnered with numerous community based organizations in Los Angeles and the Antelope Valley, which provided services to the public.
Daria Jiles
Daria Jiles holds an Associate degree from Antelope Valley College and earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Management from the University of Phoenix in 1998. She traveled abroad and took college courses during her husband's 20-year US Army career, living in Hawaii and Georgia. Daria has since retired from the Social Security Administration, Auto Club of Southern California, and the Los Angeles County Office of Education. She also started two entrepreneurial businesses focused on workers' compensation and elderly and dependent care.
As a former Miss Sun Village, Daria still envisions a better future for her childhood community and is the Director of the Sun Village Museum Project, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit created to preserve the history of Sun Village, a rural, red-lined African American self-built community developed in the early 1950s. The museum, currently a pop-up display at Los Angeles County Jackie Robinson Park and indefinitely at the Antelope Valley Rural Museum fairgrounds, aims to ensure that Sun Village’s history is not forgotten. Daria, the proud product of Sun Village pioneers, is committed to maintaining its legacy.
Dr Tara JIles
Dr. Jiles, has worked in the health payer industry for nearly 19 years. In addition, to this role she serves as a DEI leader for her organization’s employee inclusion groups. In this role she has the opportunity to create and lead brand new DEI chapters that are dedicated to enrichment programming and internal communications for employees that are geared towards increasing cultural competence and a health equity mindset. She is dedicated to strengthening leaders through education. You can often find her in both corporate and higher education settings leading discussions pertaining to leadership strategy, corporate executive coaching, health equity and DEI.
She has co-authored academic text that is dedicated to addressing gaps in access to resources such as her contribution to a textbook chapter in the “The Routledge Companion to Leadership and Change” entitled: The changing political landscape: Women in Leadership. In her spare time, she guest lectures for graduate level programs and serves as a Health Services Administration Practitioner Advisory Council member for California State University, Northridge’s College of Health and Human Development Department of Health Sciences.
She holds a B.A. in Psychology with a minor in Pan African Studies from California State University, Northridge. In addition, she has earned a Masters in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy and Doctor of Education in Organizational Leadership from Pepperdine University.
Harvey Gaines
Harvey is a retired businessman and corporate manager who has had an expansive career from a corporate manager to a small business owner in the Inland Empire. He worked in the aircraft industry for over 17 years. In his early years, Harvey worked as an aircraft mechanic at Lockheed and Rockwell, building the L-1011 and the C-5B and B1B airplanes. Due to his experience and proven leadership in aircraft, he obtained a corporate
management position at Northrop Grumman, building the 747 Jumbo passenger airline. After a long career, Harvey retired from the aircraft industry and transitioned to the field of information technology at Kaiser Permanente, servicing California, Georgia, Colorado, and Hawaii. As a Microsoft Certified Engineer (MCSE), he successfully managed multiple small businesses (Always
Cooking Catering Company and Rainbow Computer Services), fulfilling his passion for working with and servicing people.
Harvey is a family man who honors others. His commitment is evidenced by his volunteer efforts in the community and various outreaches. He served as a dedicated leader of the men’s ministry at Ecclesia Christian Fellowship, where he actively built up and trained other leaders. His community involvement included career development, counseling, and life skills. Harvey served as the AB Miller Booster Club president and actively participated in the school site council. He feels privileged to share his insight and experience with others. Others can rely on him to lead with the utmost love and heartfelt dedication. Whether he is leading a school reunion or just providing service, he does so with simplicity and authenticity. That is what makes him matter to his family and to his community.
Jeffrey Williams
Jeff and his family moved to Sun Village in 1970 where his family lived until 1983
Joining the US Air Force in 1977, he served until 1981 at Edwards AFB.
Attended Antelope Valley College from 1982-84 Received Athletic Scholarship to Purdue University earning his B.A in Communications in 1986. Attended Chapman University, Earning a Teaching Credential in 1988. Began his Teaching/Coaching Career at Palmdale High School in 1987, coaching 26 years. Athletic Director from 2006-2020, CIF Southern Section Football Advisory Committee member from 2008-2017, CIF Council Member from 2017-2023, CIF Executive Board Member from 2017-2023. Retired after 35 years of service to the Antelope Valley Union High School district in 2024.
Serving on many Non-Profit Boards which continue to promote Education Based Athletics Globally.
Founder and CEO of Access Athle-Demics LLC, serving disadvantaged and underserved students nationally.
Waymon E Roy
Armed with a technical background in electronic and gained experience in aviation during time
served in the Navy, led to a remarkable journey at Lockheed Martin. Waymon career expanded
four decades with leadership roles of increasing responsibilities on the SR-71 Blackbird and U-2
Dragon Lady Programs.
I have been active in the community for decades and has been a mentor and role model for
many programs. I have participated in a Mentor Program for Father Less Boys which later
included Girls as well. Some of whom have been guided along through high school, enabling
them to be accepted in a college or university and have become successful and respected
members of their community. I believe people sometimes need a hand, not a hand out. My
involvement in the mentor program at Jackie Robinson Park – Los Angeles County Department
of Parks and Recreation led to my position on the board of directors as well as Vice President of
the Girl Scout-Joshua Tree Council for nine years. I also served the community on the board of
directors for 12 years, with one as Chairperson for the United Way. I served as President of the
board of directors for The Friends of Jackie Park for seven years. Also served as President of the
Sun Village Chamber of Commerce for eight years. Along with serving on the board of directors
for Antelope Valley Partners for Health for six years, twice as Chairperson.
I was appointed by Michael D. Antonovich with the approval of Los Angeles County Board of
Supervisors to the position of Library Commissioner and has been awarded the 1994
Distinguished Service Award on February 11, 1995 by Michael D. Antonovich. For a second time
Waymon was presented with the 2023 Distinguished Service Award on June 17, 2023 by
Kathryn Barger.
Gwenetta Lewis
I am the oldest of eight children. My mother and father moved the family to the Antelope Valley in 1965. I have four children, two boys, two girls and six grandchildren who I enjoy spending quality time with. I love baking, golfing and spending time with family and childhood friends.
During my years of employment, I have worked for Frederick Douglas Head Start Program, Keppel Union School District and Palmdale Early Head Start Education program. I worked for Frederick Douglas Head Start for 1 year, Keppel Union for 11 years and Palmdale Early Head Start for 18 years. I was able to help and serve families in need, providing the families with information and resources to help empower them in their daily lives, and I also engaged with the children. I have been fortunate to have worked with some of the best people and built lifelong friendships.
In addition, I volunteered with Palmdale Booster Club for 2 years and was also secretary and treasurer for the Semper Fidelis Club.
